Homemade Play Pen

I made a homemade play pen for Asher. It actually worked really well. I was able to walk away for a few seconds and know that I still had a happy baby!
He was fascinated by the toy rings.
He practiced catching them and ate them when he did.
His favorite part though was kicking the old Halloween candy bag and listen to the plastic crinkle.
Some where along the way though we lost our pants. Oh well.

Special Thanks to a packing box.The Lion from one of my gift bags for the use of his tale. Baby toy rings, Baby teether, Halloween candy bag stuffed with a cloth. And of course the adorable soft blanket to lay on.

Our Little Pumpkins

We got Asher and Elvis all dressed up to go to the Pumpkin Walk. We got a few awesome pictures before we went but then Asher sprayed his outfit before we were able to take them both as pumpkins. Sad day!
Ash loved the contrasting colors of orange and black!

Aren't they so cute?

My baby pumpkin.
Go Aggies!

I look so smart with glasses.

My hair's the right color. How do I look as Snow White?

Grumpy Ol' Bear.

Peek A Boo

Asher made his own version of peek-a-boo with his burp cloths. He covers his face and as he takes the cloth down shows his surprise.

Ready for Take Off!

Brothers

Asher and Elvis get along pretty well, just like brothers you could say. We put them on the floor together and it's surprising how similar their positions are.

Would have cropped my craft project out of the picture but then you can see their positioning as well.

This one's Jeron's favorite. The boys scooted toward each other. Asher moved first, then Elvis used the couch by his feet to get up closer to Asher.

Happy Go Lucky

I have the happiest little boy! It's truly wonderful and I am so very lucky. The problem is that most times getting a picture of that gorgeous smile is almost impossible  He always gets distracted by the black box in front of your face or the flash from the camera and that wonderful smile disappears and a look of puzzlement appears. These pictures show of that beautiful smile. Please ignore the mess in the background. :)

So precious!

Though he's not quite sure what to think of the dog.

5 little ducks

Today I was singing the 5 little duck song to Asher, I like most children songs a lot because they can teach some really important concepts. This one for example when paired with actions can teach concepts like over, far away, ducks say quack and teach basic math skills of counting backwards and subtraction. Jeron doesn't like kids songs cuz they get stuck in his head but when you have a large repertoire of them they're not so bad. For those of you who haven't heard the song this is my version of it.

5 little ducks went out one day,
Over the hills and far away.
When the Mommy duck went
Quack, quack, quack
4 little ducks came waddling back.
(continue song repeating versus until only one duck comes back)

As I was singing I got interrupted halfway through with Jeron saying "This is a really sad song."
"You've never heard this song before?" I asked. "No, it's a really sad song though. Don't you think?" he responded. I had never thought of it before but without the ending it really is kinda scary. I struggled through laughter to sing the rest of my song so Jeron could hear the ending.

(after 'no little ducks come waddling back')
but then the Mommy and the Daddy duck said
Quack, Quack, QUACK
5 little ducks came waddling back.

Who knew you could learn so much from a children's song. I didn't. After this indecent I made sure to talk to Asher about kidnappings, after all he is a really cute little boy. I told him that even though everything worked out great in this story sometimes if you go too far away where Mommy and Daddy can't see or hear you, you won't be able to come back. So make sure that we can always see you.

Hopefully teaching him early will help in the future.

Terribly Uncharitable

Yesterday I called my sister Kaylee we talked and I asked her if she would accompany me to my in-laws quilting night and a baby shower for Asher next Friday mostly so she could help with Asher so he doesn't have to scream the whole car ride. It works out good for her cuz she doesn't have a car and then she can see baby Asher. However I told her "but Kaylee when you get there you have to share. You can't hold Asher the whole time." I heard her answer "PSH.. I'm not that terrible." I replied "Ya I know, you just like your nephew." Kay's response was "No, I said I'm not that charitable." Here are some pictures of Asher with his loving Aunt Kay. The pictures below were taken July 22, 23, 25, 22 in order of the picture shown.
Aw look, he loves her too.
P.S. Kaylee promised to share. :)

A new post is long over due.

A new post is long over due. Thankfully I'm not. My baby Asher is two months old today. My how time flies! Elvis loves his "little pup" as Grandma likes to say. Of course Elvis' favorite time to let you know he needs attention is while giving Asher attention. Asher is now pro at grunting like Daddy and stretches just like Mommy. He loves to be read to, cuddle with whoever is holding him and smiling, especially when Daddy comes home. His very least favorite time of day is when it's time for a diaper change. I can't figure out why, I promise I don't pinch him. I've told him that one day when he gets bigger we can learn to potty train. Below is a picture of when I had just put him on the changing table. Seriously.
Do you see those tears?
Ok now for some cute pictures cuz He really is a stinkin' cute boy.
He's so content in this one. Look at those great BIG eyes.

A Pirate Holiday

Jeron's favorite holiday ever is international talk like a pirate day. I have no idea why but it is and has been since I've known him. This morning Asher grinned at me when I went to get him from his crib. Oh my precious little boy. Anyway I went to go put it on facebook but Jeron told me I had to put it in pirate jargon so this is was I said "Aye, my scurvy little sea pirate smiled at me as I roused him from his bunk." We also put him in the most pirate-y baby outfit we had. Asher got to borrow Daddy's hook for the picture.

That evening it was time to set the sails once again to dreamland.

Brigham City Temple Open House

Today Jeron didn't have work or school so we were able to the Brigham City Temple Open House. It was beautiful! Their were peach blossoms every where. I had to run back to the celestial room to look at the handles because my mom had told me that they even have them etched in the door handles.

Having recently had surgery though made it so that I had to take the elevator. On the elevator Asher and I meet a bunch of people but most particularly this sweet old man. Everyone asked about how old Asher was and after that this sweet old man walked in front of us and told all the volunteers "See that baby over there? He's seven weeks old." It was so fun to hear, especially since he proclaimed it with the enthusiasm any Great-Grandfather would. With that face who wouldn't want to claim him?
Here's a picture of us in front of the temple. Next time we'll have to get a picture from in front of the Brigham City Tabernacle. They have a podium that when you stand on it you can get a picture of you and the whole temple.

Missing Mommy

After my surgery Jeron's Mom spent Sat night with Asher. She was an Angel for doing so and I don't know what I would have done without the help her, my Mom and many others. Of course after the surgery I needed lots of rest and my little munchkin would kick my belly scars making it ever so difficult to cuddle with him. So it was great to have others to love on him. But, not having been with his Mommy the two previous days made Asher missed his Mommy. Today when I woke up from a nap I heard Asher cry as he was getting his diaper changed. I went over to hug my little boy and as I was putting him on my shoulder I said "Oh Asher, do you miss Mommy? There's a time for Grandma and a time for Mommy huh?" Asher with perfect timing cooed his response with a sigh "Ahh" and then nuzzled himself to my shoulder.
Look at my tired boys! They got worn out helping Mommy.

Grumpy Gallbladder

Six weeks after Asher's birth my gallbladder wanted to come out too. According to the ultrasound tech who did my ulrasound I had a very unhappy gallbladder. It had at least 6 stones and was inflamed. What gallbladder wouldn't be unhappy? I had a gallbladder attack Tue Aug 28th, went into the Dr that next day, didn't have an ultrasound until Thurs and Friday when I had another attack we went to the ER cuz the pain was excruciating! Sat morning I got my gallbladder out and Sunday I finally got to go home. During this time Asher was watched by loving friends and family. I have no idea what I would have done without them.

Heavenly Father seriously does watch over us. Friday night when we went to the ER our friends Spike and Shelly graciously watched Asher while we were trying to figure what to do. Having already keep them to nearly midnight I couldn't ask them to watch him any longer, even though I'm sure they would have. I called my friend Michelle who had 6 kids (I figured one more would hardly be noticeable) if she'd be willing to take Asher over night and Sat while Jeron worked. She was a life savor and thank goodness her kids loved him. Her oldest, Vanessa would hardly let anyone else hold him and her youngest decided that Asher is now his little brother. :) One of the biggest miracles was that until the week before Michelle thought that her 8 year old would be getting baptized that day. The change "messed up" Michelle's well thought out plans but thankfully Heavenly Father had a better plan that worked out better for all of us.

Little Asher's working on his signing.. Here's him saying "I love you". We're working on keeping his thumb out.

Meeting Asher

Asher was admitted to the NICU shortly after birth. The Dr.'s new something was wrong when he didn't cry.  Because of this not many people were able to visit him but once my brain started working I realized that we could show Asher through the window of the NICU.
Our first family photo with Asher

Papa's first time holding Asher. Such a proud Papa.

Grammy's first time holding Asher. She'd been with me through the labor and everything that I'd forgotten she hadn't had a chance to hold him because the night before I had to almost beg them to let Jeron hold him.

Asher is such a loved little boy. Grandma and Grandpa Mortensen were able to come see Asher in the hospital too but we didn't get pictures of them. We were still thinking of a name until right before we left the hospital but we're so glad we named him Asher.

Belly Confusion

It was funny I went to work at Brasc aka DSL yesterday (May 29th) and visited the downstairs. Dorri and Lindsay commented on how my belly had grown since I'd seen them last. My reply was "Yup 2 more months." They both did a double take and exclaimed "Wow, your not very big." The difference in their reaction from moments before was priceless and really made me laugh.

No Baby Fat?

My baby's not chubby! Today I was looking at someone else's ultrasound picture that a friend commented on. The baby in the ultrasound is due about the same time as my baby but has this cute little baby fat belly! I thought my baby didn't have baby fat because he was working on getting everything else ready but now i'm convinced that he just moves so much he's working any baby fat he could have on him off. I guess my baby's picture was in 3D so its a little harder to compare to a 2D. ... I just looked searched facebook for other friends ultrasound pictures and it looks like that baby just had lots of baby fat. That's somewhat of a relief but I still think my baby's movement is affecting his weight gain. Seriously child what am I going to do with you.

I'm half baked

So I just realized I'm half way through my pregnancy. It's crazy! It sometimes doesn't even feel real! I texted my mom the other day telling her that I was half baked and when she called later she randomly said "Are you really twenty-six?" I couldn't figure it out and thought that of all people my mom should know I'm not 26. After a min of some confusion my mom said "I asked if you were really 20 weeks." I have no idea how I heard wrong but it's supprising to think that I'm half way done being pregnant! It's going to be intreresting seeing whats going to happen in the next few months. There is so much to do and so much is changing!!

Skittles

Elvis likes skittles. The first time I gave him one was to distract him from the fireworks in July. Funny thing was that it actually worked. Jeron caught me giving skittles to the dog and told me I should probably not do that anymore or he'll get doggy diabetes. Elvis knows what they smell like though so when we got them out today he keep looking at the bag. As I was eating some Elvis found a pen I dropped, brought it over to me and set it at my feet. (If he brings us something that's not supposed to be on the floor, mostly pens, we give him a treat) Then he looked back and forth between the pen, and me and the skittles. Super smart dog, what are we going to do with you? Needless to say Elvis got his skittle.

Dear Professor Stupid-body

Today I got frustrated with the wording of my math assignment and as I was getting Hotmail open I said "I should start it, Dear Professor Stupid-body." Jeron laughed hysterically and keep repeating it while I was starting the email to my teacher. Problem is my teachers name started with an S so it was super hard not to actually write Stupid-body. The funniest thing is that while saying the comment I wasn't talking about the teacher teaching my class cuz he didn't write the homework questions, I was particularly mad at the professor over the eled math portion of Level III. Great thing is that I don't feel bad about calling him a stupid-body... He recently got put in jail for homosexual relations with a minor and for some reason the education department is still paying him. Bah to Professor Stupid-body.

Baby Wiggler

Jan 3rd we got to see our baby on an ultrasound. It was crazy to see it but then we heard it's heartbeat and saw it move. It made it so much more real! Jeron's been so super excited and has wanted to tell everyone. So last night I sent the pics to some family. I loved Jeron's mom's response she said "Hmmmm, I can't decide who it looks like." Then my sister showed Ammon and he said "Baby is a girl." When she asked him why and he pointed at the pictures and said "Because look." Lol if that's the case I guess it looks like me.

What do you think?
